The idea of a new barbershop chapter in the Portland Metro area hatched in the summer of 2001 simply as a dream by 4 men who wanted to breathe new life into the Portland harmony scene. In the fall of 2001 the chapter became a reality with 17 men and one of its first members Mr. Mike Cox filling the director's shoes. Eager to get started the chorus had its first live performance at a tender 2 months of age. The entire performing repertoire consisted of only two songs!
Spring of 2002 brought many changes to the Portland Metro Chorus. The performing entity of the chapter became known as Bridge Town Sound and 34 men called BTS their chorus. We competed in our first Division contest with one of our coaches Mr. John Burri directing and made quite a splash in the state with a 2nd place finish, missing the top spot by only two tenths of a point! With that type of entrance to the barbershop scene it made perfect sense to hire that coach as the front line director and Mr. John Burri joined Bridge Town Sound and led the chorus to 4 subsequent state division titles in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007! Now numbering nearly 70 members BTS and barbershop is alive and well in Portland, OR.
We are very proud of what we have accomplished in just 5 short years and equally excited about our future! Won't you join us? |
