So, You want to sing barbershop? Fantastic!
A couple of things you should know. We're all hobby singers. Yep, that's right, not one of us is a professional musician! We all have varied musical backrounds from shower singing to Masters degrees in music. So the knowledge requirement is rather broad.
OK! So you're still interested in singing? Getting started is easy, first you have to find us. We're not subtle about it since the link to our rehearsal site is on every single page but just in case Click Here for Directions.
Try to arrive just a little early so that we can get you signed in then you'll get a guest book with our current music so that you can follow along. It's up to you if you would like to join us on the risers or just watch. But we hope you'll sing a tag or two with us!
At the end of the evening we'll close with another song and try to talk you into attending our Afterglow... What's an Afterglow? Guess you better come vist and find out about another tradition unique to the barbershop family!
After attending a few rehearsals we'll share more information with you about the Barbershop Harmony Society, Bridge Town Sound, costs involved with our hobby, answer any questions you might have and give you an opportunity to audition.
AUDITION!? I know what you're thinking. 'What's this audition they're talking about?' Well with the help of a few members of our Music team we have you sing a simple melody, we evaluate your ability to match notes and test your vocal range to determine your singing part. Add a little quartet singing and that's it. Fairly simple and we promise pain free!
If an audition seems intimidating, or BTS doesn't fit your needs don't go away! The Barbershop Harmony Society has chapters for all types of men who are interested in singing four part harmony. Two other chapters in the Portland Metro area are The Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters and The Rose City Timberliners.
It is our sincere hope that with any of these chapters you find one that fits your needs and gives you the opportunity to experience an artform that takes minutes to learn, yet provides a lifetime of fun, fellowship and friendships!
